Maks ignored, the best he could, how wonderfully the pupils in his last class smelled- how simple it would be to seize one of the first years around the throat and sink his fangs into them- but his thirst was growing. He'd been too neglectful of it of late, spending more and more time in his experimentation with his potions- trying still to find something that might alleviate his photo-sensitivity. Years Maks had spent on this task, and lately he was beginning to lose hope that it was possible, but it kept his mind occupied, allowed him to use his skills- unlike this position. Maks had hoped that it might come with more... prestige.
Instead he was stuck teaching a bunch of numskulls how to not blow up their cauldrons making remarkably simple elixirs. Maks lately was feeling it to be almost an insult, his skills could be utilized for much greater things. Though it was comfortable, it paid well, and really Maks could not expect to get anything more in the public eye given that he was a vampire. They weren't allowed to be hunted, but there were no laws against discrimination. It was astounding that he had been allowed to work at Hogwarts. No, not even allowed, actively sought out for his capabilities. Maks supposed he ought to be honoured, most people had to apply for their positions.
Perhaps it was merely his thirst making him disgruntled. Unable to take the smell of blood and the obvious boredom radiating from a room of eleven and twelve-year-olds who obviously did not appreciate the art of potion-making, Maks wound up dismissing class fifteen minutes early and retreating to his study to work on his brew once again. His latest attempt was six months in the making, if he had done his research and preparations correctly, it would take another half-year to complete... Maks set to work as the record player in the corner softly played Vivaldi, his hands a blur as he measured, chopped, shredded, and stirred.
Maks worked until the clock chimed ten times, curfew, the sun would be down. No longer in a focused state he became painfully aware of his thirst, he needed to hunt. Not bothering to take his time, Maks sprinted through the castle, across the grounds, and into the forest, where he was permitted to hunt anything he pleased- aside from the centaurs and the school's herd of thestrals. He had been advised against going for an acromantula, though not expressly forbidden- though he didn't find the idea of feeding from a spider appealing.
Slowing down, Maks listened to his surroundings, inhaled deeply, the burgundy of his unseeing eyes beginning to be tinged with black. Quickly, he pinpointed a rabbit, and in a flash had snatched it with his bare hands, snapped its neck, and began to feed. It wouldn't be enough, but he could feel the almost primal urge weakening. Just as he finished his first course, Maks heard something peculiar a ways off, it sounded... human. Tossing the rabbit corpse aside, Maks pondered whether or not to investigate, though it seemed the choice was made for him, as whoever it was, though still a bit too far away for him to detect by smell, was heading his way...
